MBA – University of Phoenix, Chicago, IL – 1997

B.S. – Business Management, Embry Riddle University, Daytona Beach, FL – 1991

I feel it is important for you to know how I received my education, not just that I have one.

Why I joined the military?

I worked hard in high school to get good grades. Due to my family situation, I could not play sports past 10th grade. It is very difficult to get a full scholarship without being well rounded. Work experience at part time jobs didn’t count. This was somewhat disappointing, as I would rather have played sports. I received partial scholarships from Penn State and Lehigh University. I wanted to go for mechanical engineering, with the life pursuit of becoming a fighter pilot. I couldn’t afford the other half, so I joined the military, specifically the Air Force, to get experience you couldn’t get anywhere else. What a fantastic choice, although I didn’t know it at the time.

Why did I go to Embry-Riddle?

This was, and is, the premier school to get pilot training and an aviation focused engineering degree.
It was the only school initially that I applied to in my senior year of high school. I was accepted, however, I couldn’t afford the tuition.

I was a mech engineering undergrad but switched to business finance after I failed the flight physical due to my eyes.

What was the motivation to get an MBA?

In all the things I do, I like to challenge myself, become the best and contribute back to others. Having my MBA put me on that path. I was the first person to ever earn a masters degree in my family.

Why PhD?

I have this continued curiosity with how nature and nurture intersect, how they impact society and freedom. I want to make more than a hobby. Plus..I plan on teaching as my next career move, in about 15 years.
